BEAUTY | Simple Skincare Products 101
HEY GUYS!
This article is an oldie but goody. Here’s a simple fun refresher on types of skincare products. Enjoy!
CLEANSER
It’s probably a good idea to replace that body bar soap that you’ve been using on your face with a cleanser. A cleanser is a magical face soap that purifies your face by getting rid of dirt, pollutant and bacteria. My favorite cleanser right now is Cocokind’s Oil to Milk Cleanser $18.
EYE CREAM
Dark circles are every old person's worst nightmare. Especially mine. Luckily, there’s a cream for that. An eye cream helps with puffiness, wrinkles and those dark circles. Right now I’m using Innisfree’s Hydrating Eye Cream with Green Tea @$24.
EXFOLIATOR
An exfoliator is a product that helps removes dead skin cell off the top layer of your face and helps you glow girl. It’s important to exfoliate at least once a week. Our skin constantly regenerates itself and it’s helpful if we help remove the excess dead skin on our face. Currently my favorite exfoliator is ORIGINS SKIN Retexturing Mask with Rose Clay @$26 for 2.5 fl. oz.
FACE MASK
A superhero mask that people wear to fight against aging and deter evil intruders. Okay, so truth be told there’s so many different kinds of mask. I’m going to write a whole article for this one. I really don't have any favorite sheet mask because I like so many but if I had to recommend one brand it would NATURE REPUBLIC @$9.90 for a 10PK. It's works well, the quality is dope, and it's affordable.
FACE OILS
Nutrient-filled face oils help to build a resilient layer for your skin. It's a myth that people with oily skin should avoid oil products. In fact the reason why most skin is oily is because, when our skin is dry it tries to over compensate and produces more oil. Using oil products can help your skin retain moisture and prevent excess production of oils. My favorite face oil right now is SUNDAY RILEY's C.E.O Glow $40.
SERUM
A serum the secret potion that you put on your face before a moisturizer. There are many kinds and you should choose one based on your needs. Most people skip this step but this step can be very beneficial if your skin needs the extra care. If you’re using a serum, I'm going to consider you a skincare expert. My favorite serum is Hey Honey Good Morning Facial Serum @$48. I love it because it leaves my face feeling soft and silky. Plus it doubles as a really good base primer.
SUNSCREEEN
Sunscreen is a product that help protect your skin from UV damage during those crazy unforgettable Spring Break Trips (pre-COVID). This is the most important product to add to your skincare routine. If you don’t use anything else. Use this one. I'm currently using a tinted moisturizer by Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Oil Free @$46 with SPF 20 (when I need foundation) or Krave the Beet Shield @$20 . I'm all about the dual purpose product and saving that cha-ching.
MAKEUP REMOVER
Pretty self explanatory, a product that has the extraordinary power of removing makeup from your face. this is also use for “cleansing”. This is every makeup obsessed lover’s secret weapon. If you love your skin as much as you love make-up, get yourself some makeup remover. My absolute favorite make-up remover hands down is Bioderma Micellar Water $14.90.
MOISTURIZER
A fancy name for a lotion or cream used to prevent dryness in the skin. Moisturizer should be a must-have for every skin and implemented to your daily routine. Choosing the right moisturizer for your skin can change your life. If you don't have a skincare obsession the least you can do for your face is use a moisturizer. It’s really more than just face lotion … is magic. I really don't have a favorite moisture. I'm still trying out different brands. My fave so far is YOUTH THE PEOPLE Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream @$55.
TONER
Miracle water that restores your skin to its natural pH balance and preps your skin for more products. Don’t forget the toner guys! When you cleanse your face you're stripping away all of the natural oils and decrease the natural pH level of your skin. Toner helps hydrates and restore your pH levels. My favorite toner of all time is THAYER'S Rose Water Witch Hazel Toner @$14 on Amazon.
