LIFESTYLE | Working From Home Tips

Hi Guys,

This week I started working from home. I found myself going a little stir crazy and working non-stop for over 12 hours straight. Time flew by so quickly that I unknowingly skipped lunched, missed dinner and quickly responded to every email that popped up. I realized this was unhealthy and decided to change the the pace a bit. Here’s a few tips that kept me sane during this WFH (work from home) environment.

  1. CREATE A MORNING ROUTINE

Instead of rolling out of bed straight to a laptop - try creating a morning routine. This can help you mentally transition from home-life to work-life. It really helped me feel less rushed and mentally prepare for the crazy day ahead. I started making my bed, brushing my teeth, getting dress, making coffee and meditating before I began my day.

  2. SEPARATE YOUR WORKSPACE FROM YOUR HOME SPACE.

Create a work space for YOU! If you’re a Writer, you can probably work from your couch and ideas will flow out of you. If you’re a Musician you’re probably in the shower getting inspiration for new tunes. If you’re a Product Manager, you probably need a desk, 2 Screen, and a candle to manpower through all of those excel sheets. Depending on your line of work you need to create a space within your home just for work. Creating the perfect environment for yourself can help relax, concentrate and kick ass.

  3. SET DAILY GOALS

One day is never enough time, especially if you plan on beginning DOPE. Instead of overloading yourself with everything, start prioritizing and only focusing on time sensitive items. Instead of having a to-do list of 35 tasks, break it down to 5-10 obtainable tasks. You’ll feel a sense of accomplishment on achieving 5 goals that day instead of feeling overwhelm with multiple uncompleted task.

  4. TAKE BREAKS

I found myself not going to the restroom during my back-to-back conference calls. Let’s be real, I didn’t want to miss a beat and that’s my problem. I didn’t leave my desk and it ended up fogging up my brain. The moral of the story is go pee, take walks, break for 5 minutes - it’ll clear your mind and help you make better decision, less mistakes, and increase productivity. So you do you!

  5. KNOW WHEN TO SHUT IT DOWN

I work with peeps in different time zones - so it’s pretty easy for me not to STOP working. I say that proudly because I’m a badass work-alcoholic. What I realized though was this was burning me out and the lines between WFH started blurring. I didn’t know when to stop, when to rest and this caused minor errors in my work. So my best pieces of advice is finish all of the time sensitive items and then rest. It’ll be there for you tomorrow god-willing. On that note I should probably sleep now.

P.S. I hope this helps!

PEACE & LOVE!
